LEADERS OF THE NEXT GENERATION

THE COPY TANZANIA LTD is a pioneer within The Copy Cat Group in launching a customized development and training program which we have named “Leaders of the Next Generation”. The program has two main objectives: the first is the sustainability of the business and the second is to assist in the personal growth of high potential younger employees.

Sustainability for the Business

Let’s first consider sustainability. THE COPY CAT TANZANIA LTD has a lot of expatriates in senior positions within the company. They have performed a vital role within the organization and have done and are doing a good job. However, at some point in time, as we have regularly seen, expatriates inevitably decide to return to their home countries, leaving THE COPY CAT TANZANIA LTD to start all over again in terms of recruiting and training new people. THE COPY CAT TANZANIA LTD is of course a Tanzanian company and, as we go forward, it is important that more and more senior positions are filled by Tanzanian nationals. This will give us a much more solid foundation from which to build our business. 19 of the 24 people currently taking part in the program are Tanzanian.

Also from the standpoint of sustainability it is important that we have greater gender diversity at all levels of the organization as failure to do so and to remain something of a male dominated company will discourage higher caliber female employees from wanting to work for THE COPY CAT TANZANIA LTD. We want to become an employer of choice for good female as well as male staff. 12 of the 24 people currently taking part in the program are male and 12 female.

Personal Growth for the Staff

Now let’s consider the personal growth of high potential younger employees. To be successful a company needs not just one leader but leaders at every level in the organization – the more the better. THE COPY CAT TANZANIA LTD is committed to helping younger members of staff to acquire the skills which will allow them to become such leaders. The 24 staff currently taking part in the program will receive training from THE COPY CAT TANZANIA LTD’s CEO and several carefully chosen visiting speakers on leadership itself, business planning, delegation, communications, coaching and mentoring and many of the other skills required to enable them to become more effective in their everyday work and to position themselves as candidates for more senior roles in the future. 21 of the 24 people currently taking part in the program are aged in their twenties and thirties.

The first batch of “Leaders of the Next Generation” – and there will be further such groups in subsequent years – were selected by THE COPY CAT TANZNANIA LTD’s Leadership Team

Based not only on their age, ethnicity and education but also on their performance and attitude. All of them signed up to give up one Saturday per month for the remainder of this year for training and all of them made a commitment to remain with the company for a minimum of three years. Next year others will be given the opportunity to participate also, so for those who are not part of the initial group there is still everything to aspire to.

In the famous words of Nelson Mandela “Sometimes it falls on a generation to be great. You can be that great generation. Let your greatness blossom”
